Correctly maintain air conditioning systems in vehicles: priority for hygiene & clean air
Air conditioning systems in vehicles are much more than just a popular comfort feature. With pleasantly tempered and clean air, they also help to ensure that the person at the wheel remains focused and attentive at all times. Air conditioning therefore plays a crucial role in safety - provided that the requirements for cleanliness and hygiene are met! New directive on hygiene requirements Hygiene deficiencies in the ventilation system of motor vehicles can endanger health. The Association of German Engineers (VDI) and the German Association of the Automotive Industry (ZDK) point this out. The jointly developed new hygiene requirements for air conditioning systems in motor vehicles (guideline VDI/ZDK 6032, cars/trucks) are intended to provide a remedy. A smelly air conditioning system is not only unpleasant, but can also make vehicle occupants ill, emphasized the VDI and ZDK at a joint press conference. If maintenance and cleaning are neglected, bacteria and mold can spread in the ventilation system. The cabin air filter should therefore be replaced at least once a year or every 15,000 kilometers.
Cleaning and maintaining air conditioning systems correctly Health risks can only be eliminated by regularly changing filters and cleaning system components. According to the directive, a service that concentrates on functional testing, leak testing and checking the refrigerant is not sufficient.
It is also clear that the hygienically perfect maintenance and cleaning of vehicle air conditioning systems places special demands on specialist companies. The vehicle workshop personnel themselves can also be at risk from contamination that is hazardous to health.
The new VDI/ZDK Guideline 6032 is therefore intended to fulfill two purposes at once:
to enable the automotive trade to clean vehicle air conditioning systems according to the state of the art
and at the same time to implement and improve health protection during operation.
